MELA is an Ethiopia company that produce handmade timeless accessories. The brand is committed to making more accessible, trendy, clean, multifunctional products with a twist using modern and traditional material to create unique, well-crafted pieces. The brand Mela is an Amharic word meaning CREATIVE SOLUTION., which reflect in all our design.

Behind the brand, HIRUTH GOUGSA is the main designer and founder. Hiruth was raised in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia before moving to United Kingdom for further education. After returning, her passion for fashion lead her to launch the first bag show in Addis Ababa and subsequently open her store with the help of hardworking teams and local artisan in June 2006.  Hiruth is still working with different local artisan promoting, educating, giving them a platform to showcase and inspiring them to make an impact in the communities. The company now produce different Products all locally manufactured.
